Frequently asked questions
How is the consultation conducted?
If you prefer a traditional phone call, simply let us know when booking and we’ll be happy to accommodate your preference.
Do you review documents or prepare forms in the consultation?
What follow-up or documentation is provided?
After the meeting, we’ll send you a detailed follow-up email summarizing our discussion, outlining our recommendations, and providing links to any relevant IRS guidance, tax treaties, or supporting resources discussed during the consultation.
If additional research is needed to answer a question fully, we’ll carry out that research after the consultation and include our findings in the follow-up email. This ensures you receive complete, well-supported advice rather than a rushed answer during the call.
What's the difference between the 20-minute consultation and the 60-minute tax consultation?
20-minute introductory consultation ($50)
The introductory consultation is held with one of our experienced international tax accountants. It’s designed for individuals considering 1040 Abroad for tax preparation who would like to discuss their tax situation, ask questions, and determine the best way forward.
If you engage 1040 Abroad to prepare your tax return, we’ll deduct the full $50 consultation fee from your tax preparation invoice.
60-minute tax consultation ($500)
This is a dedicated one-hour consultation with Olivier Wagner, Founder and CEO of 1040 Abroad. It is designed for individuals who need in-depth tax advice, international tax planning, business structuring, expatriation planning, residency planning, investment planning, or guidance on other complex cross-border tax matters.
Because these consultations are different services with different purposes, the $50 introductory consultation fee cannot be applied toward the 60-minute consultation with Olivier Wagner.
Should I book this consultation if I need my tax return prepared?
Our 60-minute consultation with Olivier Wagner is designed for individuals who need strategic tax advice, international tax planning, or guidance on complex cross-border tax matters before or alongside tax preparation.
